'I've developed critical thinking skills that give me an edge in the work environment'

Sept. 5, 2013

When it comes to standing out in her field, IU senior Lauren Chamberlain knows that being herself during interviews is just as important as having critical thinking skills.

“Nothing has been more stressful or rewarding in my three years here so far,” she said.

A double major in finance and marketing with a minor in Spanish at the Kelley School of Business, Chamberlain underwent a rigorous but ultimately empowering recruitment process last fall to find a summer internship.

Chamberlain ended up working in sales at the brewing company Anheuser-Busch in Boston, where she will work as a full-time employee in July 2014 after she graduates.

The Greenwood, Ind., native shared the perks of living close to family during college andher post-graduation plans.

Q: What do you like most about your major?
A: Since I’m a double major in finance and marketing, I’m able to combine logical and numerical knowledge with creativity and innovation. Because the two are so opposite, I’ve developed critical thinking skills that give me an edge in the work environment.

Q: What's an interesting fact about you most people would find surprising?
A: In the spring 2013, I was tweeted by Dick Vitale for my team spirit after IU won the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Championship.

Q: Where is your favorite spot on campus?
A: I love sitting by the fireplace in the Union when it’s cold and snowy outside.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Bloomington?
A: My favorite thing about Bloomington is the variety of cultures it has to offer. I love eating Turkish food, trying to speak Spanish with my South American friends, and hearing about different people’s lives overseas.

Q: Tell us about your family.
A: My entire extended family is from Bedford, a small town about 30 miles south of Bloomington. It’s great having them so close, because during sporting events or other events on campus I can still share my life with them.

Q: What extracurricular activities have you been involved with?
A: I've loved all the organizations that I've been a part of, and IU has so many to choose from. I'm involved with Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, the IU Ballroom Dance Club, the Scholarship Advisory Committee and Campus Crusade for Christ.
